Roger Hasenforder with adoring fans

ROGER HASSENFORDER, aged 90

Known as the Crown Prince of Cycling, Roger survived an eventful childhood in the Alsace, but only just. He grew up to be one of cycling’s greatest names – and certainly the most eccentric.

Leonard Crow Dog

LEONARD CROW DOG, aged 78

A member of the Lakota Sioux, Leonard pursued equal rights for all Native Americans. In return he was persecuted and suffered miscarriages of justice.

Penelope Laingen

PENELOPE LAINGEN, aged 89

An American diplomat’s wife, Penelope fought for the rights of the spouses of diplomats. She became internationally famous when her husband became a hostage in the Iran Crisis and was the scourge of two American presidents.
