MIKE BURROWS, aged 79

The greatest ever bike designer. He invented the recumbent bike, won GB an Olympic gold, led the Tour de France and starred in 2 tv shows.

MARIO TERAN, aged 80

An ordinary officer in the Bolivian army, he was present at the arrest of revolutionary – and was the man who executed him. This forced him to live under cover for the rest of his life.

ENOCH WILLIAMS, aged 80

Came to Britain as part of the Windrush generation and worked hard to become a successful, innovative hairdresser in London and New York. Made a TV appearanceafter his death.

HILAREE NELSON, aged 49

An American skiier and mountaineer, she set many climbing and descending records. Known for her fearlessness, she met a tragic end.

DENNIS LOTIS, aged 97

A South African crooner he became a music superstar and a terrible actor. He was involved in a pioneering TV moment and sold eggs to the stars.

JAMES BUTLER, aged 90

A noted sculptor he worked with the Queen, for the Royal Mint, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Wolverhampton Wanderers and for the military – his statues are to be found in diverse places.

TRAUTE LAFRENZ, aged 103

A medical student, she joined the White Rose Movement, protesting about the Nazis. Betrayed, she survived the concentration camps to become a doctor and teacher.
