LILY SAFRA, aged 87

Born in South America, she married four times, becoming one of the world’s richest women and a major philantropist. But two of her husbands died in mysterious circumstances.

VENETIA STEVENSON, aged 84

She came from an artistic family and was an actress and a model, known for her beauty She married an actor and a pop star and her daughter inspired a very famous song.

TOM KAREN, aged 96

After escaping the Nazis as a boy, he grew up to be the greatest modern designer of our times – toys, bikes, cars, caravans, artwork. You name it, he made it.

NUTMEG, aged 75

After working in a university she took up crossword setting after retirement and became a regular in four publications, becoming a favourite in the world of puzzling.

WEE WILLIE HARRIS, age 90

Britain’s first rock and roller. Diminutive with bright pink hair and an outrageous stage show – but he never had a hit. His backing singer became a major star.

EARL OLD PERSON, aged 92

Chief of the Blackfoot Tribe based in Monana, he was a Scout, a musician and a basketball player and eventually a politician, befriending monarchs and presidents – and fighting for the rights of Native Americans.
