Persecuted from a young age, he had a famous revolutionary grandfather and witnessed one of the most notorious political assassinations of the 20th century.

PIPPA LATOUR, aged 102

The longest surviving female SOE agent working in occupied France, she paved the way for D-Day, but was never acknowledged by her male colleagues.

LUCIA HIRIART, aged 98

A Chilean aristocrat, she married army officer Augusto Pinochet. When he led a military coup she became First Lady, known for her temper and love of wealth.

BOB LE SUEUR, aged 102

An insurance salesman who was active in the resistance in Jersey in the Channel Islands during the war, rescuing Russian slave labourers from the occupiers.

JANINE DE GREEF, aged 95

Along with all of her family she was a key member of the Comet Line, getting Allied airmen out of Belgium at great risk to herself.
