Researching and reporting on the lives of some really interesting people (RIP)

JOACHIM AUERBACH, aged 93

Fleeing the Nazis as a child, he made a life in Britain, but always worked to help other people in a similar situation to his younger self.

HUGH CALLAGHAN, aged 93

An Irish labourer living in Birmingham, he was accused of bombing two pubs. After cruel treatment, he spent years in prison until his innocence was proved.

THERESA STEWART, aged 90

An Oxford graduate, she became a pioneering Labour Councillor in Birmingham – the only woman to lead the council. She was Mayor of the city but was hated by the right-wing press.
