MARY LEE, aged 101

After winning a talent show she became a child star of the 1930s, singing in dance bands. Later on she became a comedian and musician – part of a double act.

MIKE SADLER, aged 103

The last surviving original member of the SAS he was their desert navigator, leading daring raids against the enemy before working in intelligence after the war.

MAGDA SALEH, aged 79

After being trained with the Bolshoi ballet she became Egypt’s prima ballerina and first decorated woman. She became a doctor, teacher and artistic director.

TED OATES, aged 101

Growing up in Huddersfield he joined the TA and the Army and had a dramatic escape through Belgium and France andwas part of the evacuation of Dunkirk. His story became the basis of a film.
