Serving in the Royal Navy during the war, he was on the arctic convoys before being present at D-Day. In later life he stood up to a notorious media mogul.

NORMAN PILCHER, aged 85

Part of the Drug Squad of the Metropolitan Police in the Swinging Sixties, he set out to arrest celebrities, but he was extremely corrupt and ended up in prison himself.

ROSALINA NERI, aged 96

An actress and singer who looked similar to Marilyn Monroe, she attracted lots of attention and fame, forging a very successful career in her own right.

DIANE ROWE, aged 90

Along with her twin sister she became a record breaking world champion at table tennis and a national sporting hero, representing two separate nations.

EILEEN SHERIDAN, aged 99

She took up cycling late but went on to hold all 21 women’s cycling records simultaneously. Many of her achievements have never been bettered, but she remains largely unknown.
