VALERIE ANDRE, aged 102

A trained doctor, she joined the French army and learned to fly helicopters, treating injured soldiers in battle. She was also the first female French general.

ELIZABETH SELBY, aged 96

Fleeing Europe and the Nazis, she set up a photograph agency in London with her husband, which captured many famous images and supplied the world’s media.

PHILIPPE DE GAULLE, aged 102

A war hero, admiral and politician who was denied deserved honours , his whole career and life was over shadowed by having an extremely famous father.

LEON GAUTIER, aged 100

Originally he signed up for the Free French before becoming a marine and part of the only French unit to fight at D-Day. He later became an advocate for peace.

Hubert Germain

HUBERT GERMAIN, aged 101

Hubert saw action in the Battle of Bir Hakeim and also in the Battle of El Alamein. He was made a Companion of the Order of Liberation and died in October 2021.
