Researching and reporting on the lives of some really interesting people (RIP)

MARCUS KLINGBERG, aged 97

A Polish Jew who fought for the Red Army in the war, he emigrated to Israel to become their leading scientist – but all along he was a spy for the USSR.

DAVID KIRKE, aged 78

He reacted to tragedy with great risk. He invented bungee jumping and microlighting and competed in extreme and dangerous sports, always facing great dangers.

CECILY LITTLETON, aged 95

A brilliant scientist in her own right, she was part of a significant and pioneering family – but she gave it all up to become a horticulturalist. She was dedicated to preserving the legacy of her great grandfather.

THERESA STEWART, aged 90

An Oxford graduate, she became a pioneering Labour Councillor in Birmingham – the only woman to lead the council. She was Mayor of the city but was hated by the right-wing press.
