Researching and reporting on the lives of some really interesting people (RIP)

DEREK ROSE, aged 93

His father invented the pyjamas as we know them. He took over the family firm, selling luxury night ware to the rich and famous, being loved by his customers.

ROSE GIRONE, aged 113

A victim of the Nazis she was a refugee in China and the USA, eventually setting up her own business in knitwear. She was the oldest Holocaust survivor.

JOACHIM AUERBACH, aged 93

Fleeing the Nazis as a child, he made a life in Britain, but always worked to help other people in a similar situation to his younger self.

ANGELES FLOREZ PEON, aged 105

Spurred into socialism by the murder of a brother, she was one of the few women to be actively involved in the Spanish Civil War, being imprisoned and tortured.

JEAN ARGLES, aged 97

She worked as an SOE operative, running agents throughout the war and deciphering codes, as her sister worked with Bletchley Park and her father was in a POW camp.

MEHRAN KARIMI NASSERI, aged 77

Thrown out of Iran, he lost his papers and was a refugee trapped in Charles de Gaulle airport where he lived for 18 years – and inspired a film.
