MAURICE KANBAR, aged 93

An inventor and philanthropist he created alcoholic drinks, toys, medical solutions, food and much more – and put his money into good deeds and public welfare.

GRETA ANDERSEN, aged 95

A swimmer she won a gold medal at the Olympic Games but the nearly drowned. She then became an endurance swimmer holding many records that stand to this day.

TRAUTE LAFRENZ, aged 103

A medical student, she joined the White Rose Movement, protesting about the Nazis. Betrayed, she survived the concentration camps to become a doctor and teacher.

MARGARET KEANE, aged 94

A successful painter she was the victim of a major art fraud caused by her husband – leading to a paint-off in court.
