MIKE ‘LOFTY’ CARR, aged 101

A surveyor who joined the LRDG fighting the Axis powers in North Africa, he had many exciting exploits before becoming a POW and making a dramatic escape.

JAAK DAEMEN, aged 97

A resistance fighter who joined the Belgian SAS and was involved in the liberation of his home country and The Netherlands and was the first to enter Germany.

MIKE SADLER, aged 103

The last surviving original member of the SAS he was their desert navigator, leading daring raids against the enemy before working in intelligence after the war.
