After being trained with the Bolshoi ballet she became Egypt’s prima ballerina and first decorated woman. She became a doctor, teacher and artistic director.

BENJAMIN B. FERENCZ, aged 103

The last of the Nuremberg Trials prosecutors, he was forced to visit concentration camps searching for evidence of crimes. He later became a world wide advocate for peace.

DOTTIE FRAZIER, aged 99

She saved her sister’s life, water skiied with a broken leg, fought a shark, rode with a snake and won an Olympic gold medal. An amazing woman!

BETTY ROWLAND, aged 106

Teenage vaudeville star, Queen of Burlesque, she spent time in prison, mixed with the stars, appeared in films and created a well-known fashion item.

CAROLYN GRACE, aged 71

The world’s only qualified female Spitfire pilot who flew her own plane at airshows, she tragically died in the same manner as her husband.

MARIO TERAN, aged 80

An ordinary officer in the Bolivian army, he was present at the arrest of revolutionary – and was the man who executed him. This forced him to live under cover for the rest of his life.

HILAREE NELSON, aged 49

An American skiier and mountaineer, she set many climbing and descending records. Known for her fearlessness, she met a tragic end.

LOUISE TOBIN, aged 104

A talented jazz singer from Texas she sang with Benny Goodman. She discovered Frank Sinatra and made a formidable partnership with her husband Peanuts Hacko.

JAMES McDIVITT, aged 93

Fought in the Korean War and then became an astronaut going into space twice on Gemini 4 and Apollo 9. A pioneer who averted a space disaster.

MARIE WILCOX, aged 87

A native American from California, she was the last person to speak her tribal language. She set about re-introducing it and saving it for future generations.
