Injury prone young farmer who took up fell running to recover and became the greatest ever in his sport, setting many records and achieving incredible feats.

A brilliant young kayaker, he represented his country and achieved many amazing feats and helped younger people take up the sport – before meeting a tragic end.

Spurred into socialism by the murder of a brother, she was one of the few women to be actively involved in the Spanish Civil War, being imprisoned and tortured.

DOROTHY BROMILEY, aged 93

Fame was thrust upon her when she was selected to appear in a Hollywood movie, but it disappeared quickly. She continued acting and became a textiles expert.

A young African American who was drafted into the war, he was on Omaha Beach during D-Day, protecting troops landing. It took years for him to get recognition.

Originally a secretary to the stars in the sixties, she became a well-known railway station announcer. She was involved in a highly controversial court case

JEANNIE EPPER, aged 83

Possibly the greatest stuntwoman ever, she knew no fear. She made her name in Wonder Woman and appeared in many famous films – also training other stuntwomen.
