A conscientious objector during the war, he worked in a famous farming community. Constantly activating for peace, he finally appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe.

MARILYN LOVELL, aged 93

Wife of an American astronaut, she hit the headlines when the Apollo 13 mission had to be aborted. The world watched her anguish and fear, suffering with her.

MITZI DAVIES, aged 81

An actress most famous for appearing in Coronation Street, she was in many other very popular TV programmes for three decades before retiring to Corfu.
