BEPPE PIRODDI, aged 82

An Italian playboy in the 1960s he was part of a group known as The Four Musketeers. He had affairs with rich women and had celebrity friends, as long as connections with royals and the Mafia.

JOSEPH KITTINGER, aged 94

A test pilot who was involved in space research, he completed the world’s highest skydive. He broke many world records but also became a prisoner of war.

NORTON LEE, aged 98

After surviving the Arctic Convoys and wartime missions to Sicily, Salerno and Malta, he played a key role in D-Day. He was present at the Nazi surrender in the Netherlands and retired to be a huntsman.

DAVE WINTOUR, aged 77

A session musician who appeared on Top of the Pops, with many famous artists and on numerous records, he eventually became a member of the west country band The Wurzels.

LORNA COCKAYNE, aged 97

Recruited to Bletchley Park during the war she became one of the first ever computer operators – and read Hitler’s messages.

DORIS DERBY, aged 82

At the forefront of the Civil Rights movement, she attended the March on Washington before photographing images of racism and the struggle for equality in the USA.

MARK RAFFLES, aged 100

From ARP warden to ENSA magician, he entertained troops in WW2. He then became a TV and variety star and was the world’s oldest active magician.

IAN HAMILTON KC, aged 97

Liberation or theft? He committed one of the most scandalous ‘crimes’ of the 1950s, but it didn’t stop him going on to become a barrister.

LILY SAFRA, aged 87

Born in South America, she married four times, becoming one of the world’s richest women and a major philantropist. But two of her husbands died in mysterious circumstances.

VENETIA STEVENSON, aged 84

She came from an artistic family and was an actress and a model, known for her beauty She married an actor and a pop star and her daughter inspired a very famous song.
